2 Week Appointment

Gavin had his 2 week check-up yesterday. He weighed 8 pounds 12 ounces when he was born, 8 pounds 1 ounce when we left the hospital and 8 pounds 2 ounces at a weight check two days after we left the hospital. At his appintment yesterday he was 8 pounds 9 ounces. Babies are supposed to be at least back up to their birth weight by 2 weeks old so Gavin is just a little bit behind. Our pediatrician wants us to bring him back in next week Monday for another weight check. Gavin is such a laid back baby that he also tends to be a lazy nurser. Hopefully he'll gain some more weight this week! The rest of his appointment went great - the doctor says that he is a healthy baby and everything else looks great - YEAH!

No, Aiden and Gavin don't sleep together!!!! They were just bonding together last night before bedtime! Oh how I love having two boys! I can't wait until Gavin gets bigger and they can start playing together. I think they will be good buddies! :)

2 Weeks

I can't believe that Gavin is 2 weeks old today! In a way it seems like the time has gone so fast yet in another way it seems like he has been with us forever and I couldn't imagine life without him. His transition into our family has been WONDERFUL! Aiden absolutely adores him and is constantly coming up to him to rub his head, give him a kiss, or just talk to him. Yesterday as I was getting dinner ready for Aiden I turned around to find him "reading" his new favorite book "Bear Snores On" (thanks Dotti!) to Gavin. It was soooooo adorable!

This morning after I gave Gavin a sponge bath I couldn't resist playing with his hair! Enjoy..

My brother Jeff and his fiancee came over yesterday and gave us the perfect onsie for Gavin!

In case you can't read it (sorry, it's kind of blurry) it says "If my toys could talk... Wow this baby is cute! Yeah, he has great hair!" With Gavin's FULL head of hair they couldn't have found a more perfect shirt!

And I'll leave you with our boys in their jammies... it doesn't get any cuter than this!

New Pics

Here's some more pics of our adorable boys!

Getting ready to sleep in his bassinet the first night at home. Katrina (Bryan's mom) made the hat Gavin is wearing for Aiden when he was a baby. So nice to have something for Gavin to wear that was made by his Grandma. It so hard to not have her here to meet Gavin but at least we have some wonderful reminders/memories of her.

Gavin hanging out in his "hammock" of his bathtub waiting for his first sponge bath at home. He didn't like it very much but wasn't as vocal about it as his big brother was for his first sponge bath.

After his sponge bath...

Aiden enjoying slightly warmer weather out on the deck.

Gavin likes...
... to be swaddled
... to be held
... to sleep a lot
... his mommy's voice

Gavin hates...
... having his diaper changed
... being overly tired

Gavin could care less about...
... the dog barking
... Aiden being noisy ALL the time
... getting passed around from person to person

Newborns

Okay, so it has only been 2 1/2 years since we've had a newborn baby but there's a lot of things I've "forgotten" about...

1) The amount of diapers we go through in a day... no make that in an hour. I think Gavin is playing a game with us - just as we finish changing a diaper and get his clothes back on he decides to fill it again less than 5 minutes later. Twice during the night last night, after I nursed him, changed him, got his pj's back on, swaddled him, put him back in his bassinet and laid back in bed myself he decided to fill his diaper back up.

2) The noise of a dirty diaper... are you really supposed to hear it clear across the room? Aiden thinks it is hilarious, Bryan is proud, and I'm thinking typical boy!

3) You can't judge a diaper by the amount of noise it took to fill it. There have been a few times when I've been tempted to call in the Haz-Mat team because the amount of pressure, noise, and vibration of Gavin's diaper hit a 10.0 on the Richter Scale. However, when I went to change him he's only got an amount the size of a quarter in his diaper. How does that work?

4) When you have a boy you have to remember that diaper changes need to be as quick and organized as a tire change on a Nascar. Gavin first reminded us of that in the hospital when he decided to "wash" the hospital wall. Then last night at 1:30a.m. as I was changing his diaper he peed all over his head and soaked his hair. So I had to wash and dry his hair and get him new pj's - poor kid with all the hair he has it took forever to dry.

5) Why in the world do they have so many stinkin' buttons on newborn/infant sleepers. They need to color code them or something. Gavin hates having his diaper changed so he kicks and screams the whole time which makes it even more challenging to try to figure out which buttons are supposed to snap together. I'm going to invent zip-up outfits for newborns/infants and become a millionaire!

Despite all of the reminders of what it is like to have a newborn baby again, I wouldn't trade it for the world. He is SO stinkin' adorable and I LOVE being the mommy to two awesome boys. Life is good and we have been doubly blessed!

Gavin James

I know you are all waiting to see some pics of our precious little boy so I won't make you wait any longer!

Sorry, that's all we have for now. We can't download pics directly onto the laptop so Bryan will have to go home tonight and download them on our home computer and bring them back tomorrow morning.

I now believe the old wive's tale that the more acid reflux you have during your pregnancy the more hair your baby will have. I'm still in shock with how much hair Gavin has.

Gavin, Aiden, Bryan and I are all doing well. Gavin has been a pretty laid back baby so far - complete opposite of his big brother. It is so fun to see Aiden interact with Gavin. He is so good with him and absolutely adores him. He is really gentle with him and loves to hold him and shower him with hugs and kisses - so precious!
