Two years ago today we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy! He is such a blessing in our lives and we love him to pieces! :)
To celebrate his birthday we took him out for dinner. This first picture is right after his nap - he refused to smile. I took about 8 pictures before giving up on getting one with a smile. However, by the time we got to Texas Roadhouse he was in a much better mood and much more willing to "cheese" for the camera!
Our waitress brought a saddle out for Gavin to sit on while she annouced to the restaurant that Gavin was celebrating his 2nd birthday. He wasn't too sure about all of the attention he was getting (quite opposite of Aiden!) but he went along with it anyway. Ice cream - yummmm!
After dinner we went to the mall. Here he is taking one of the many birthday calls he got today. Thank you to everyone who called, e-mailed, left facebook comments, sent cards, etc. We love the fact that you helped to make his birthday even more special!
Of course we had to ride the carousel at the mall! We let him choose what he wanted to ride on. Of course he HAD to choose the frog with a duck coming out of his butt! What's up with that??? I never let them choose that one because it's just so bizzare and gives me the creeps but it was his birthday so I couldn't say no today.
We went home and let Gavin open his presents. He loved opening them. As soon as one present was open he went right for the next one without really paying too much attention to what the present actually was.
Sporting his new bike helmet and golf clubs we got him...
Can you tell he loved the helmet? He left it on most of the night!
We will have a cake for him this weekend when we celebrate with family so for today I just picked up some cupcakes - can't celebrate a birthday without some kind of cake! :)
Here's some info about our two year old:
Gavin weighs exactly 24 pounds. He has not gained a single ounce since he has been 20 months old. His pediatrician told us that we need to keep him on whole milk (babies/toddlers have to stay with whole milk until they are two years old and then can switch to skim milk) even though he's now two. We also have to supplement with Carnation Instant Breakfast and Pediasure and give him as many calories as we possibly can. Poor baby - he just doesn't eat well and won't gain weight. More weight checks are now in our future.
He is 34.5 inches tall which is the 54th percentile for height.
He is starting to talk a lot more and says new words daily but is still struggling. He was evaluated for delayed speech and is now working with a speech pathologist.
He LOVES playing with all of the trains on the train table and is getting really good at putting the tracks together.
He loves looking at books, playing with cars, trucks, and tractors, and playing outside.
He points out semis and busses every time he sees them.
His nicknames continue to include: Gavers, Gavs, peanutbutter (courtesy of Aiden), peanut, and G.
He usually eats two good meals a day but you never know which two they will be. I think it has only been about 3 or 4 times that he actually ate three good meals all in one day. Hense the reason he's struggling with his weight.
He loves to dance.
He loves to play with Aiden and Emma.
He is much more outgoing than he used to be. He will now talk to strangers and let other people hold him without crying.
He FINALLY sleeps through the night. (On a side note: Aiden is FINALLY sleeping through the night now too. Something all of a sudden clicked for both of them a few months ago - up until then at least one of them required our attention at least a couple of times throughout the night. SOOOOO thankful that we can now sleep through the night - haven't done that for over four years.)
Last weekend Aiden, Gavin and I went sledding with my cousin and her daughter. They had tons of fun! Aiden would barely make it to the top of the hill, hop back on his sled and be off again.
Today we went to the pool for Aiden's swimming lessons. I brought along a matchbox activity box for Gavin and he had tons of fun playing with it. I'll have to remember to bring it along every time because 40 minutes is too long for him to just sit and watch Aiden swim. It's been snowing most of the day and Bryan is working. I didn't feel like going outside so I hauled out our big box of craft stuff and the boys sat and played/created for 45 minutes! Even Gavin!
